About Book

Women entrepreneurs play a crucial role in the process of economic development. Over the years, women’s share in the labour force is continuously rising. They are the emerging economic force, holding key positions in government as well as in private sectors. They are even managing their own business enterprises. These enterprises are contributing to the country’s development by helping to reduce poverty and by promoting self -reliance among people. Women constitute about half (52% / 1,73,78,649 Crores) of the total population of Kerala. Therefore, they are often regarded as the better-half of the society. Traditionally, women in Kerala were considered only as house wives and they were visible very little outside their domain. The education level of women was also poor and hence it created a lot of communication gap among them. But in modern times, women have become more visible; they are fully acquainted with the facilities provided by the state and central government.
Like men, the women entrepreneurs organise all the factors of production, undertake risks and provide employment to others. The term ‘Women Entrepreneurs’ is defined by the Government of India as “An enterprise owned and controlled by a women having a minimum financial interest of 51 per cent of the capital and giving at least 51 per cent of the employment generated by the enterprise to women”.
